Zanoletti power station

At the beginning of the 20th century Carlo Zanoletti, owner of the quarries of the same name in the Chiodi district, felt the growing need for ever larger quantities of electricity to support local industrial activities, not only quarrying.

In 1910 he therefore reused the channels and building of an old mill, which in the seventeenth century had served the community, to build a hydroelectric power station.

The plant initially served, in addition to Visone's industrial activities, the lighting needs of the municipalities of Visone, Rivalta Bormida and Strevi. At the end of 1912 it housed a 100 kVA dynamo and supplied two three-wire overhead lines at a voltage of 6,000 V.

The power station is now owned by Società Idroelettrica Piemontese S.r.l. and is still perfectly operational: it still uses the original channels, but electricity is now generated by a modern Kaplan turbine plant housed in a structure to the side of the original building.
