the Bormida riverside and the medieval Rocca

The Bormida riverside walk runs along an important stretch of the river bed, from both a naturalistic and a historical point of view.

Towards Acqui, in fact, it skirts the lower part of the Rocca, where the ancient Aleramic castle stood and where, from the 10th century, the first urban nucleus of the village developed.

Towards Ovada, instead, it reaches the confluence of the Visone with the Bormida, upstream of the lake formed by the dam that holds back the water for the power station. Here stand the remains of the landing stage of the ferry which, until as late as the 1970s, linked the southern bank with the Visone hamlet of Cavallera: the ferryman's house can still be seen, along with the winch that kept the steel cable taut for the ferry's crossing.
