Romanesque bridge over the Visone

The San Secondo bridge linked, from the early medieval period onwards, the valley-floor road with the Morsasco/Cassinelle ridge, an ancient stretch of the salt road and for a long time an alternative route to the Cremolino pass for reaching both the Ovada area and, directly, the Genoese Oltregiogo.

With three unequal round arches and cutwater piers, it was seriously damaged during the great flood that devastated southern Piedmont and Liguria on 6-7 October 1977. The reconstruction of the roadway and parapets on that occasion showed little respect for the historical and archaeological value of the structure, which nevertheless still preserves its original load-bearing structure, perfectly intact and clearly visible.
